Microsoft has released the February 2025 preview cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2, with 33 improvements and fixes for multiple issues, including SSH and File Explorer bugs and the volume jumping to 100% when waking the PC from sleep.
KB5052093 is part of Microsoft’s monthly “optional non-security preview updates” schedule that lets Windows admins test new features, bug fixes, and improvements that will be rolled out to all customers with the March 2025 Patch Tuesday release.
First, the Windows 11 February 2025 preview update (like the one released for Windows 10 systems) resolves a longstanding issue that breaks SSH connections on some PCs after installing the October 2024 cumulative and preview updates.
It also improves File Explorer’s performance and addresses several bugs when entering URLs in the address bar and opening the context menu.
KB5052093 also fixes a known issue that causes the audio volume to jump to 100% when waking the system from sleep, and another one stops USB audio devices from working on PCs that are left idle for a short time.
To install this preview update, go to Settings> Windows Update and click “Check for Updates.” Since this is an optional update, you will also be prompted to click the “Download and install” link.
You can also manually download and install KB5052093 from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
Windows 11 KB5052093 highlights
Once installed, this preview release will update Windows 11 24H2 systems to build 26100.3323.
This non-security preview update also comes with additional improvements and fixes, some of the more significant ones highlighted below:
- [Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers] New! Some of you might see a new referral card for a PC Game Pass subscription on the Settings home page. With it, you can invite friends and family to try a PC Game Pass for free. If you qualify, the card only appears when you sign in to your PC using your Microsoft account.
- [Scanners] Fixed: Apps might not recognize a scanner is available when it is connected.
- [Drag and Drop] Fixed: The drag and drop functionality wasn’t properly moving objects (such as files, emails, or attachments) in specific apps and monitor configurations. This issue occurred on devices using high DPI displays and apps using legacy DPI scaling modes.
- [Remote Desktop] Fixed: It stops responding.
Microsoft also reported two known issues with KB5052093, one causing some Citrix components to block the installation of the January 2025 Windows security update (Citrix provides a temporary workaround on this documentation page).
The other one impacts Roblox players on Arm devices and prevents them from downloading the game from the Microsoft Store on Windows (as a workaround, they can get the game directly from www.roblox.com).
Windows 11 24H2 has entered broad deployment and is now available to all seekers via Windows Update, with Redmond rolling out the Windows 11 2024 Update to all eligible Windows 10 22H2 PCs since mid-January.
One week earlier, Microsoft said it would start force-installing Windows 11 24H2 on eligible, non-managed systems running the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2.
