Reflections On A Three Hour Tour Of Doom: The Dark Ages

Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Demonic Robots?

DOOM: The Dark Ages will be a bit different from the past games, but apparently not too different.  Rock, Paper, SHOTGUN had a chance to play with a development version and ended up in some dragonback dog-fighting, and a fifty-storey fistfight in a gargantuan mech.   This certainly sounds interesting, as you get to stomp through cities in the mech, crushing everything in your wake and apparently the dragon has a pedal which turns it into a reptilian fighter jet.  Not exactly what you think of when you reminisce about previous DOOMguy experiences but it could make things interesting.

There is still plenty of up close fighting on foot, but even that will be different.  The shield we’ve seen in teasers is apparently a huge part of the game, you use it to block blows from demons, especially the big ones, which is a far cry from DOOM: Eternal’s focus on continuous movement if you want to succeed.  You can also toss the shield at far away enemies that are annoying you to stun them for a bit of a time.  The article is quite lengthy and covers a lot, so go check it out in full.
